The national view
Award floors, national salaries and the full on-cost bill
The Sydney table above adds superannuation and nothing else. This table answers the two questions readers ask next: what is the legal minimum for each role, and what does an Australian hire cost once leave loading and workers compensation are added? It uses Seek's Australia wide advertised range rather than the Sydney range, so the two tables are not interchangeable; each carries its own method. Every figure was read on 26 September 2026.
- Award floor. The full-time adult annual base rate for the closest classification in the relevant modern award, from the Fair Work Ombudsman pay guides effective 1 July 2026 (each figure links to its pay guide). It is the legal minimum, not the going rate, and it is not used in the cost calculation. Accountants in accounting firms are award free (Fair Work Ombudsman); estimators, marketing specialists and automation roles depend on the employer's industry and the person's qualifications, so a reference classification is shown.
- On-costs, 15.05 percent of salary. Superannuation guarantee 12 percent (ATO); annual leave loading of 17.5 percent on four weeks' leave, which is 1.35 percent of annual salary (Clerks Private Sector Award, clause 32.3); workers compensation at 1.7 percent of wages, the national average stated by the NSW Government in April 2023 and consistent with the 2026/27 scheme averages published by WorkSafe Victoria (1.8 percent) and WorkCover Queensland (1.343 percent). Payroll tax is not added because every state's annual threshold (A$1.0 million to A$1.5 million of wages, payrolltax.gov.au) sits above the payroll of the businesses this page is written for. Recruitment, equipment and training are not added either. Each omission understates the Australian cost.
- Calculation. Cost with on-costs = midpoint of the Seek range x 1.1505. Saving = that cost minus the midpoint of the Offshored band for a year, divided by that cost. The ten role figure is the total saving divided by the total Australian cost, not an average of percentages.
Across the ten roles the Australian employment cost at the midpoint totals A$998,025 a year against A$317,700 through Offshored, a difference of A$680,325 or 68.2 percent. By role the saving runs from 60.5 percent (AI Operator (automation specialist)) to 74.4 percent (Executive assistant). On the Sydney method above, superannuation only, the median across fourteen roles is 67 percent; adding leave loading and workers compensation on national ranges gives 68.2 percent across ten roles. The two figures are consistent, and each is labelled with its own method so that either can be quoted.
