Worked example

What a Brisbane hire really costs, with Queensland payroll tax

Take a Brisbane bookkeeper at A$80,000, the midpoint of Seek's range. Superannuation at 12 percent brings that to A$89,600. If your business is over the Queensland payroll tax threshold of A$1.3 million in annual Australian taxable wages, payroll tax at 4.75 percent adds about A$4,256, because superannuation counts as taxable wages. That is about A$93,856 a year before leave cover, recruitment, equipment and a desk.

An offshore bookkeeper through Offshored is A$25,200 to A$33,600 a year, and that is the whole cost. Team members are employed in the Philippines by Australian Pathways OPC, so superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax and workers compensation do not apply to them. The 2026 cost guide works through the same comparison line by line, and the legality guide explains the employment structure.

The rate is 4.95 percent for employers or groups paying more than A$6.5 million in Australian taxable wages, a mental health levy applies above its own thresholds, and regional employers may be entitled to a 1 percent discount until 30 June 2030. Source: Queensland Revenue Office, payroll tax rates and thresholds. The Australian Bureau of Statistics counted a net increase of 19,244 businesses in Queensland in 2025 to 2026 (Counts of Australian Businesses, released 18 August 2026). The comparison is indicative: confirm your own payroll tax position with your accountant.

Time zone

Brisbane hours, the same all year

Queensland does not use daylight saving, so Manila is two hours behind Brisbane all year. A team member covering your 9am to 5pm day works 7am to 3pm Manila time in every month, with no roster change in October or April. Of the east coast capitals, Brisbane gets the most consistent overlap, and a Brisbane business that also serves Sydney and Melbourne customers can choose a start time that suits both.

Offshored team members work on Australian public holidays unless the day is also a Philippine holiday. For a Brisbane business that includes the Royal Queensland Show holiday in August, which the rest of the country does not share, so the inbox and the phones can be covered while your local team is off. We give you two business days' notice of any Philippine holiday that affects your team member.

Getting started

How a Brisbane business gets started

Offshored does not have a Brisbane office, and we would rather say so than rent a virtual address. Our Australian office is at Level 7, 99 York Street, Sydney, and everything a Brisbane business needs from us happens by phone and video call.

  1. Tell us the role. A 20-minute call covers the tasks, the software, the hours in Brisbane time and the experience you need. We confirm the monthly fee for that role on the call.
  2. We recruit and vet. Our Manila team advertises, pre-screens by interview and shortlists. Every hire provides an NBI clearance. There is no recruitment fee.
  3. You interview and choose. You meet the shortlisted candidates by video and make the final decision. Most hires start within one to two weeks.
  4. Onboard and start. You set up logins in your own systems, your named account manager runs the onboarding plan with you, and your team member starts on Brisbane hours from day one.

The full process, including probation, reviews and replacement, is on How it works, and the controls around your data are on the data security page. If your business is in a regulated or specialised sector, the industry pages cover law firms, accounting firms, real estate, trades and construction, NDIS and allied health, medical and dental, mortgage broking and e-commerce.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions from Brisbane businesses

Does Offshored have a Brisbane office?

No. Offshored has one Australian office, at Level 7, 99 York Street, Sydney, and one Philippine office in BGC, Manila. Brisbane businesses work with us by phone and video call, and you are welcome at the Sydney office by appointment when you are in town.

Do Offshored staff work Brisbane hours?

Yes. Your team member works the hours you set in Brisbane time. Because Queensland does not use daylight saving, Manila is two hours behind Brisbane all year, so a 9am to 5pm Brisbane day is 7am to 3pm in Manila in every month.

Do I pay Queensland payroll tax on an offshore team member?

No. Offshored team members are employed in the Philippines by Australian Pathways OPC and are not your employees under Australian law, so superannuation, PAYG withholding, payroll tax and workers compensation do not apply to them. You pay Offshored one all-inclusive monthly fee. Confirm your own position with your accountant.
